High volume A4D site

Sig Pam
Hi everybody!

What can be expected when you run a recent 4D server with A4D, how many page
views per day? It's clear that this highly depends on the code, but assuming a
good code ...

So: is there somebody aware about a large A4D-powered website that could be
named?

Thank you!

Hello Peter

www.jungfrauzeitung.ch
A very complex News-Plattform with a CMS for the journalists, and  output-channels for www, mobile, android, IOS-App.
40'000 Page-Views per day.
Active 4D is very fast!!! With the A4D collections and the json support, you can program very cool things. But now I start to cache more and more parts of the generated pages, because the webserver has a problem, when about 90 people read at the same time the very complex Front-Page of the news-portal.
All is running on a (to old) Mac Pro with 4D, Active4D and NTK.
Next steps are.
- Faster newer Mac Pro with SSD.
- A new Caching-System in front of the 4D-Webserver.

Regards, Oliver

Re: High volume A4D site

David Wright-9
Hi each,

We receive about 80,000 page requests a day currently, most of them very complex pages with hundreds of lines of code in them, and have no problems on a new MacPro with 4Dv15.

We did however recently have to upgrade because our previous old-style square Mac Pro with 4Dv12 was not coping very well at all. When it received heavy traffic it would clog up with unfinished web processes until the memory was full up. These problems have (touch wood!) all gone away with new hardware and 4D version. I expect we could have debugged and reinstalled to see if this problem could have been fixed without an upgrade.

We use an NGinX server for all of the static files, and I would recommend this to anyone!

Regards

David

Re: High volume A4D site

Mike Vogt-2
Hello,
We regularly handle over 100,000 page hits per day with no slowdown. We currently use A4D and 4D v13 on a 64 bit Windows 2008 server, allocating 16GB to the cache, and this setup is behind an Apache web server handling the static components of pages.  We are still using spinning disks as opposed to SSD's, and I'm sure we aren't near the ceiling of this setup.  The pages are quite complex, with several queries, orders by, and ajax calls on nearly all pages.

Thanks,
Mike Vogt

Thank you all for your input on high volume A4D sites. I now have the trust that A4D can be used on my project. I don't expect more than 10.000 hits per business day, so I'm clearly on the sure side.

Side note: stupid me! 10.000 devided by 10 hours devided by 60 minutes gives 16 requests per minute or 0,2 rq/s. Ridiculus. I could have come to this by myself, without bugging you.

Yours

  Peter
