slow a4d calls

Darin Schroeder-2
Hi,

I have 3 domains set up in VirtualHosts.ini. Two of the domains work great,
but one of them pauses for approximately 5 seconds before and/or after each
request.

For instance ... I created a simple page that just deletes all session
items and sets the session timeout to 0.

<%
delete session item("@")
set session timeout(0)
%>

The slow domain takes at least 10 seconds to run this. The other domain
does it in less than a second, based on firebug times - practically all
"waiting" time for both - 10 seconds for the slow one and 1/2 second for
the faster one.

It wasn't always like this, it just started over the last few days.
Configuration seems to be fine for both domains. Nothing jumps out.

My test server which has the exact same configuration performs well with
both domains.

I usually rewrite my calls to A4D with Apache, but I get the same results
hitting the server directly.

Anybody with thoughts about how I can track down the source of the slowness?

Thanks,

Darin

Windows 8, Active4D-v61r5, 4D v13.4

Darin,

Turn on debug logging and take a look to see if anything strange is happening in the log.

Re: slow a4d calls

Darin Schroeder-2
Turns out it was a DNS error ... I noticed the delay was occurring prior to
the actual method being processed ... i looked into the zone records and
there was a problem with that ... so as usual, A4D was doing it's job just
fine.

Thanks again,

Darin

New error appearing after 13.5

Mike Vogt-2
Hi all,
After upgrading to 4Dv13 (13.5 64 bit) I get the following error when I first hit a page.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/C/Project/Active4D/fusebox.a4l [main] 11
/C/Project/Active4D/fusebox.conf.a4l [main] 13
define(fuseaction; "fuseaction")

This name is already in use by another entity

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's almost like 4D or Active4D is remembering the variable from when it was running before I stopped and restarted it.  The error goes away in less than a minute.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Mike Vogt

No problems here. Have you tried with the demo?

Generate UUID in Active4D

Mike Vogt-2
Hi All,
I'm getting the following error in Active4D when calling Generate UUID:

$index:=Generate UUID
Reference to an undefined variable or value

$index is defined, so I'm guessing that Active4D doesn't support the 4D Generate UUID command.
I seem to recall that Active4D had a command for generating a UUID but can't seem to find it.

Staring at documentation...

Windows 2008 Server. 4D v13.5 64 bit. Active4D v61r5

Thanks!
Mike Vogt

At the risk of sounding obvious, you might try searching the documentation, or looking at the index of commands. That usually works better than staring! And if those two techniques fail, then you can safely assume that the command does not exist natively in Active4D, at which point you want to look at the documentation for the 'execute in 4d' command.

Re: Generate UUID in Active4D

Mike Vogt-2
Ok, I've tried:

C_Text($index)
$index:=execute in 4d(Generate UUID;*)

and

C_Text($index)
$index:=execute in 4d(Generate UUID)

and

And C_Text($index)
execute in 4d($index:=Generate UUID;*)

and I still get the error:

$index:=execute in 4d(Generate UUID;*)
Reference to an undefined variable or value

With the Generate UUID in red.

So then I did:

$script:="return(Generate UUID)"
$index:=execute($script)

return(Generate UUID)
Reference to an undefined variable or value

With the Generate UUID in red.

??

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Generate UUID in Active4D

Hi Mike,

Try it with the command in quotes - I believe that the first parameter needs to be a string:

<%
        $uuid := execute in 4d("Generate UUID";*)
        writebr($uuid)
%>

Either you need new glasses or I need to rewrite the documentation!  :-)

The docs state that you pass the *text* to execute. That isn't text you are passing, there are no quotes. The example in the docs shows text in quotes being passed. So it should be:

$index := execute in 4d("generate uuid"; *)
